Horizon Lost and Found. 2016
site specific installation.
Coming from far to encounter a new place is in many ways to seek a new horizon. Drawing. A line starting in one place and reaching another, putting one foot forward and then the next, meeting, hearing new stories whilst resonating with one’s own. Physical and psychological shifts – at times subtle and at times tectonic – challenge one’s vertical trajectory to interrupt the continuum of the horizontal line. Forming connections, opening windows, cleaning the gathered dust, mending dents in the floor, and leaving a trace to mark one’s presence in the space.
The site which once was a wool spinning mill connects with past personal history of growing up near a cotton spinning mill. And the present reality of the countryside around Cottbus evokes parallels that can be drawn with changes taking place in urban and rural environments in other parts of the world I have seen.
